Happy OT 2021 Week!

In this blog, our Occupational Therapist Georgia, writes about what OT week is and why it is important to celebrate. This year, OT week is being celebrated between Monday 25th October to Sunday 31st October.

What is OT Week?

Occupational Therapy day was initially launched by the World Federation of Occupational Therapy, which has now been recognised internationally on 27th October for the past eleven years. Following this initiative, allied health professionals around the world have continued celebrations to bring awareness, visibility and recognition to the important work that Occupational Therapists do.

What is the theme for 2021?

This year, Occupational Therapy Australia has chosen the theme of Participation – Inclusion – Independence.

Occupational therapists can work in a range of settings and roles, which include but is not limited to:

  • Schools
  • Pharmacies
  • Private Practices
  • Independent living centres
  • Psychiatric clinics, hostels and hospitals
  • Retirement homes
  • Home care services
  • Occupational Health centres
  • Local community health centres
  • Public and private hospitals
  • Medical rehabilitation units

While the OT role can be extremely diverse across these different settings, OT’s goals and purposes remain the same – which is to support individuals to participate in their meaningful occupations, feel a sense of inclusion across their communities and maximise their independence in daily life.

Why are we choosing to celebrate at Cooee Speech Pathology?

At Cooee Speech Pathology, we have a team of both Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists who work collaboratively to deliver a high quality of multidisciplinary care. Cooee recognises the unique role that each profession brings to supporting children, young adults and their family and therefore, are using this week to recognise and appreciate their Occupational Therapy team and all of the other OT’s who have acted as mentors and inspiration to our team. Cooee Speech Pathology values the contribution that Occupational Therapists provide to individuals to feel supported and reach their full potential to be able to access and participate in their meaningful occupations and communities.

How can I get involved!

On the Occupational Therapy Australia website, you will find a list of events happening across Australia to allow connection and celebration in the OT community.
