Can My Private Health Fund Help Pay For My Speech And Occupational Therapy Sessions?
At Cooee Speech Pathology, we want to help parents access ongoing child speech pathology and occupational therapy services for kids across Brisbane and our client care team are here to make that start as easy as possible. By providing families a number of options for payments and processes, our client care team is able to assist families to access therapy in a way which suits their needs.
All of our speech pathologists and occupational therapists are registered with either their professional association or registration board, and have Medicare provider numbers. This means for eligible services, you may be able to claim on your private health funds, depending on your level of extras cover.
What services do you cover for speech pathology and occupational therapy?
The most common services accessed by families with private health for speech pathology are as follows:
- Initial individual consultation/assessment 45-90mins – 320
- Initial individual consultation/assessment up to 45 mins – 310
- Subsequent individual consultation/ assessment/treatment up to 45 minutes – 340
- Subsequent individual consultation/ assessment/treatment 46 – 90 minutes – 350
- Group treatment 46 – 90 minutes – 380
The most common services accessed by families with private health for occupational therapy are as follows:
- Initial Individual Assessment/Treatment – 100
- Individual Assessment/Treatment – Subsequent to Initial – 200
- Individual Assessment/Treatment – Long Consultation – 250
- Group Assessment/Treatment – 300

Our client care team will help to determine which speech and/or occupational therapy assessment would be best suited for your child’s needs and will find a time for regular therapy that suits your schedule. Please contact us directly to find out the code which will match your appointment, so you can determine rebate levels prior to attending your appointment.
Will my private health fund cover the full fee for therapy?
All private health funds are different so we would advise that you contact your health fund directly with the relevant speech and/or occupational therapy codes relating to your assessment or therapy sessions. Your health fund will then be able to give you an estimate of the rebate you will receive.
Do you have to wait in line at your private health fund – No!
After attending a session at Cooee, our client care team can process your private health card to make a claim. If your health fund covers speech and/or occupational therapy services for your child we can claim the rebate for you on the spot through our HICAPS terminal. Once the claim has been processed you will just need to pay the gap payment.
