Delivered by our Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists in Alderley, Brisbane, each 30-minute screener checks the skills your child will use every day in the Prep classroom — from talking and early reading, to fine motor, gross motor and sensory skills.
You’ll get a personalised summary report with clear, practical next steps. You’ll know where your child is doing well, and where a little extra support could help.

Prep Readiness Speech Pathology Screener
Starting Prep is an exciting milestone. Strong communication skills provide the foundation for learning, friendships, and classroom participation.
Our Prep Readiness Speech Pathology Screener is for children in their final year of kindy, or getting ready for Prep. It gives you a snapshot of the communication and early literacy skills your child needs for a smooth start to school.
The screener shows your child’s strengths. It also identifies any areas that might benefit from extra support, along with practical next steps.
What’s included?
Before your appointment, you’ll complete a short online Cliniko intake form. This covers consent, privacy, fees, our cancellation policy, diagnoses, and other key details.
In the 30-minute appointment, your Speech Pathologist will assess:
- Speech clarity — how clearly your child produces speech sounds, and how easily they’re understood.
- Language and storytelling skills — your child’s ability to understand, organise and retell a simple story.
- Language skills — following directions, answering questions, understanding language, and using sentences.
- Early literacy skills — phonological awareness (sound and letter skills) that support learning to read and spell.
- Parent questionnaire — a short questionnaire about your child’s communication and everyday functioning at home and kindy.
After the appointment, your clinician scores and interprets the results, and prepares personalised recommendations in a brief summary report.
What this screener is
- A brief, evidence-informed snapshot of your child’s communication and early literacy skills.
- A chance to identify strengths, and any areas that may need support before starting school.
- A way to find out if further assessment or speech pathology intervention is recommended.
- A starting point for families unsure whether their child is school ready.
What this screener isn’t
This isn’t a comprehensive speech pathology assessment or a diagnostic evaluation. It can identify areas of concern, but it can’t diagnose speech, language, literacy or developmental disorders. If more detailed information is needed, your clinician may recommend a full assessment.

Prep Readiness Occupational Therapy Screener
Occupational Therapy helps your child join in confidently at school. Skills like using pencils and scissors, managing routines, regulating emotions, sitting at the table, and playing with others all support a good start to school.
Our Prep Readiness Occupational Therapy Screener gives you a snapshot of the everyday skills your child needs to take part in learning and school life.
The screener shows your child’s strengths, identifies any areas that may benefit from extra support, and gives you practical recommendations.
What’s included?

In the 30-minute appointment, your Occupational Therapist will assess:
- Development and parent questionnaire — a short questionnaire about your child’s everyday skills, participation and any concerns.
- Fine motor and visual motor skills — early handwriting readiness, drawing, copying and handling small objects.
- Functional fine motor skills — classroom tasks such as pencil grasp, cutting, and using learning materials.
- Gross motor and postural skills — balance, coordination, posture and movement for classroom participation.
- Executive functioning and independence — organisation, attention, following routines and everyday independence.
- Sensory processing — how sensory preferences and responses may affect participation in everyday activities.
After the appointment, your clinician scores and interprets the results, and prepares personalised recommendations in a brief summary report.

What this screener isn’t
This isn’t a comprehensive occupational therapy assessment or a diagnostic evaluation. It’s an early screening tool, so it can’t diagnose developmental, sensory or motor conditions. If a concern is identified, your Occupational Therapist may recommend a more comprehensive assessment.
