This group targeted at children in Prep and Grade 1 is a creative, hands-on group that helps children develop their foundational writing skills and confidence in handwriting tasks through activities targeting letter formation, spacing, and pencil control.

• Who is it for?
  • The Letter Legends group is intended for children in Prep and Grade 1 who;
    • Are developing their foundational handwriting/ letter formation skills.
    • Children who struggle with writing letters or avoid writing tasks

Supporting:

• Fine motor skills, including pencil control and hand strength required for writing tasks
• Correct letter formation, including start points and direction
• Letter sizing to support consistent and legible writing
• Letter placement and line awareness when writing on the page

A fun and engaging group that uses Lego bricks and builds to develop social communication, problem- solving and collaboration skills.

This Interoception group program is for small groups (max 4) of children aged 7 – 10 (mid primary), so they build awareness of their body signals, emotions, and regulation strategies through engaging, play-based and discussion-based activities.

• Story Understanding (Comprehension) – Children learn to understand stories by identifying key details, main ideas, and important events. They practise listening, recalling information, and making sense of what they hear and read.
• Making Connections – Children are supported to link stories to their own experiences, prior knowledge, and the world around them. This helps deepen understanding and supports more meaningful participation in discussions.
• Conversation Skills – Through guided group discussions, children practise turn-taking, staying on topic, listening to others, and sharing their ideas clearly within a group setting.
• Asking & Answering Questions – Children build confidence in both answering and asking questions about stories. They practise responding to different question types and generating their own questions to support understanding and interaction.

Small-group, targeted support to strengthen early reading skills and help children build confidence and automaticity in the basics of learning to read.

Supporting:

• Letter–Sound Knowledge & Foundations for Reading – Children learn to recognise letters and connect them to their sounds — a critical first step in learning to read. They practise both seeing a letter and saying its sound, and hearing a sound and identifying the matching letter. These skills form the foundation for accurate and confident reading.
• Phonemic Awareness (Blending & Segmenting) – Children develop the ability to hear and work with individual sounds in words. They practise blending sounds together to read words (e.g., /c/-/a/-/t/ → cat) and segmenting words into sounds for spelling. These skills are essential for decoding and are strong predictors of reading success.
• Decoding & Early Word Reading – Using their growing sound knowledge, children practise reading simple 3-letter (CVC) words. This helps them move from guessing to confidently sounding out words, supporting independence and accuracy in early reading tasks.
• Confidence & Engagement in Learning – The small, supportive group setting allows children to practise skills at their level, experience success, and build confidence. Structured, predictable sessions help reduce frustration and support positive engagement with early literacy learning.

  • Mondays from 20/04/2026 – 22/06/2026 at 4:30pm (please note there is no session in Week 3 (04/05/2026) due to Labour Day Public Holiday)

  • Week 1 (20/04/2026) and Week 10 (22/06/2026) – $100.00 per session (These sessions must be attended to participate in the group program)
  • Weeks 2-9 – $36 per session
  • Week 4 & Week 7 AHA & CPSP oversight and review meeting (no attendence required by group participants) – $23.20 per meeting
• The baselining (first session) and outcome measurement (final session) of this group will be run by both a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP) and an Allied Health Assistant (AHA), the weekly therapy group will be run by an AHA with CPSP oversight and review meetings scheduled in weeks 4 and 7 with the AHA.

A small group program that uses structured play to build relationships with peers, develop cooperative play skills, and expand their ability to communicate with others using a wider range of vocabulary and longer, more flexible sentences.

Supporting:

• Using different types of vocabulary in their sentences – including different types of:
  • Nouns: names of things, objects, people and items
  • Verbs: actions or states that can be done or experienced
  • Adjectives: describing the attributes or qualities of nouns
  • Adverbs: describing the qualities or attributes of verbs
• Using longer sentence structures to express and explain their ideas to others, such as:
  • Compound sentences (e.g. I am going to stir the mixture and you can chop the bananas)
  • Complex sentences (e.g. You need to get up because you’re blocking the pirate ship)
• Extending play sequences:
  • Create logical actions to lengthen play scenarios
  • Add an action to a peer’s play
  • Imitate daily life routines, such as meal times, cooking, dressing, and going to the shops

A structured and engaging group that uses pictures and visual prompts to support the development of listening, reading comprehension, and idea generation skills, while building confidence in expressing ideas with others.

Supporting:

• Listening & Reading Comprehension – Children learn to listen to and interpret information from pictures, short texts, and group discussions. They are supported to identify key details, make connections, and understand meaning, helping them participate more effectively in classroom learning.
• Expressing Ideas (What to Say & Write) – This group focuses on helping children generate and organise ideas for speaking and writing. Children are supported to describe, explain, and share their thoughts clearly. The emphasis is on what to say, rather than handwriting or spelling, with supports such as typing available where needed.
• Organisation of Ideas – Using visual supports and structured frameworks, children learn how to organise their ideas into clear, logical sequences. This supports both verbal expression and written tasks, including describing events, explaining ideas, and retelling information.
• Social Communication & Peer Interaction – Group activities provide opportunities to share ideas, listen to others, and respond appropriately in a small group setting. Children build confidence participating in discussions, taking turns, and engaging with peers.
• Confidence & Participation – Through supported practice, children develop confidence in contributing their ideas and participating in learning tasks. The group environment encourages risk-taking, persistence, and positive engagement.

  • Weeks 2-4 & 6-9 – $36 per session

• Speech Clarity & Intelligibility – Children are supported to produce speech sounds more clearly so they can be better understood by others. Through play-based activities and repeated practice, children work towards clearer, more accurate speech in everyday communication.
• Speech Sound Awareness – Children develop awareness of different speech sounds, helping them recognise, practise, and produce sounds more accurately. This foundational skill supports both speech development and early literacy.
• Practising Sounds in Words & Play – Target sounds are practised within meaningful activities, helping children use their speech skills in real-life contexts. Repetition and structured support help build consistency and confidence.
• Social Communication & Participation – Group sessions provide opportunities to practise communicating with others, including taking turns, listening, and responding. Children build confidence using their speech with peers in a supportive environment.
• Confidence in Communication – As children become easier to understand, their confidence grows. The group supports children to feel more comfortable speaking, participating, and interacting with others across settings.

• Total cost for 10 sessions = $429.10** (not including baselining/outcome measurement)
• **For new clients – before starting the group there is an initial assessment and goal setting session required with a Speech Pathologist – $144 per session (30-minute appointment in person + 15-minute management plan) and at the conclusion of the group a 30-minute outcome measurement and review appointment with a Speech Pathologist ($96 + $48 for a updated management plan if further intervention is recommended).
